Joseph Mowia, health worker mentor

Supporting clients is an important part of your job as a Primary health care worker. Providing social and emotional support includes:

  • finding out a client’s history
  • giving information
  • talking with other health professionals
  • helping people under stress
  • referring people to support services
  • following up clients
  • caring for yourself.
Florence Tjapalajara, health worker mentor

Whether you work in a rural, remote or urban service, being a Primary health care worker can be a very rewarding and sometimes very stressful job. As a remote health care worker, helping our people with mental health, grog, yarndi and other drug issues doesn’t always stop when the clinic closes.

Melinda Davison, health worker mentor

Part of being a good health care worker means knowing how to support and help others manage stress. It also means learning to see when your own stress is building and having a range of ways to deal with it.
