Our history

The results of past government policies are still very vivid in many people's minds and many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have little trust in mainstream services, including health services.

They have, as a group, experienced considerable trauma in the form of:

  • dispossession of land
  • removal of children
  • family separation
  • displacement
  • loss of culture.
