Why was the rehab service started?
The original ‘Yarrabah rehab’ (now Gindaja) was established in response to a need for a drug and alcohol service identified by the Anglican Church of Yarrabah and the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council, in the late 1970’s early 1980’s.
What services does Gindaja provide?
Gindaja provides:
- treatment services through their range of holistic programs
- education services through a range of courses offered to clients to provide them with knowledge and skills to move beyond their misuse of drugs and grog
- prevention services through their grog and drug prevention and awareness education program for clients and through their outreach work in the community
- counselling services delivered by Gindaja’s own staff and by referral to specialist staff from outside.
