Why was the rehab service started?

The original ‘Yarrabah rehab’ (now Gindaja) was established in response to a need for a drug and alcohol service identified by the Anglican Church of Yarrabah and the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council, in the late 1970’s early 1980’s.

What services does Gindaja provide?

Gindaja provides:

  • treatment services through their range of holistic programs
  • education services through a range of courses offered to clients to provide them with knowledge and skills to move beyond their misuse of drugs and grog
  • prevention services through their grog and drug prevention and awareness education program for clients and through their outreach work in the community
  • counselling services delivered by Gindaja’s own staff and by referral to specialist staff from outside.

Gindaja has a well developed network of third party organisations with which it partners, including:

How is Gindaja a community driven organisation?

Gindaja was established by community members in response to a need identified by community organisations. It services the needs of the local community and employs local people.

How is the service Gindaja offers holistic?

Gindaja offers treatment, counselling, education and prevention services. It addresses clients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs through the range of features offered in its program.
